Eternal Chase

Your vassal stopped walking in circles

Two monsters at the same distance, one of them behind a wall — and he would spend the whole hunt going from one to the other without reaching either. Now he measures the path, not the straight line. Half the deaths went with it.

If you hunted in the Wolf Wood these past weeks, you saw this happen: the vassal stops in the middle of a corridor and paces, one step each way, until the contract runs out. No card in the Battle Order fixed it, because the problem was not the order — it was how he picked his target.

What was happening

He picked the nearest monster in a straight line. And a straight line goes through rock.

Two goblins six tiles away: one six tiles ahead down the corridor, the other six tiles behind but on the far side of a rock mass, forty steps of walking away. To the old arithmetic, they tied. The vassal stepped toward one, the tie broke the other way, he walked back. And again.

What changed

He now compares what it costs to get there, not what looks close. And once he has picked a target, he only switches if the other is clearly more within reach — a chase does not change its mind over one step of difference.

He also no longer forgets who he was chasing when the monster turns a corner.

What it did to your hunt

Twenty-five minutes in the Wood, level 3, canteen only:

beforenow
kills88.593.0
deaths (across 8 hunts)42
time trading blows80388881

It is not that he kills much faster. It is that he stops wasting time scraping a shoulder along the wall — and time against a wall is time without healing, without loot, and with the pack closing in.

Anyone who used to die on the way back from the Crypt with a full bag will feel it.
